Created by the Italian-American sculptor, Antonio de Filippo (1900–1993), this sculpture was dedicated in 1938. The stamp commemorating John Ericsson on April 20, 1926, coincided with the unveiling of the Ericsson Memorial in West Potomac Park, Washington, DC directly south of the Lincoln Memorial.
